Alison Melody Lambert, M.Ed., WDT, CALT
Empowering Students Through Structured Literacy
Expert in Language-Based Learning
Alison Lambert is an academic language therapist specializing in remediating language-based learning disabilities. She works with struggling readers and writers aged 6-20 using a structured literacy approach to address all aspects of literacy, from foundational word-reading and spelling to all aspects of language comprehension—development of vocabulary and background knowledge, use of proper grammar and syntax, and implementation of a structured writing process. She works both one-on-one and in small groups, privately and through contracts with multiple school districts. Her philosophy is to build not only reading and writing skills but also the academic self-efficacy and confidence that students have lost as a result of their struggles. A primary goal is for students to understand that they are truly competent learners who simply need a different approach and the right supports in order to excel.
Lambert Language & Literacy also provides customized professional development for groups of educators targeting each group’s specific needs, in all areas of literacy. Through her work with Everyone Reading Illinois, her state’s dyslexia organization, she collaborates on presentations to schools and districts regarding dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities and provides dyslexia simulations for educator and parent groups. She speaks on a variety of literacy and learning topics at professional conferences.
She is a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) and is Level 2 certified in Wilson Reading System and several other evidence-based reading and writing programs. Her most important qualification, however, is that of a parent to children with language-based learning disabilities. This experience guides her in all interactions with families and educators with whom she works.
